Creative Souls

Sabbath and Art Immersion for New and Experienced Creative Types

October 23-27, 2016

Location: Haw Creek Commons, Asheville NC

Retreat Leader: Gary Alan Shockley

Step away from the work and routine of life and become immersed in a Sabbath Arts experience that incorporates space for painting, rest and reflection in the beautiful landscape of Asheville NC.

Our retreat is located at Haw Creek Commons, an integrated semi-rural neighborhood ministry which combines a co-working business, an ecumenical cooperative of worshipping communities, a community garden, partnership with a local elementary school, and retreat space.

In partnership with Bethesda UMC (founded 1844) and the Blue Ridge District of Western North Carolina Conference of the UMC, the Missional Wisdom Foundation repurposed the building, parsonage and campus of Bethesda to develop this vital new hub for neighborhood life.

While participating in the Creative Souls Sabbath Retreat you will hear the story of Haw Creek Commons, meet local leaders and people from the neighborhood, and just may get to meet the family of black bears that lives near by.

Haw Creek Commons is close to many beautiful and inspiring natural vistas, waterfalls, parks and stunning places to paint, write, rest and play.  People from all over the world come to the Asheville area each year to rediscover themselves.

You may want to join a group of people attending from all over the United States OR reserve the entire retreat for your group of friends or colleagues!

Providing group and one-on-one En Plein Air (Painting outside) watercolor instruction and immersion experiences at neighboring waterfalls, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Arboretum gardens. A basic watercolor supply kit and paper will be provided with your registration.

Offering space in the retreat center and out in nature for participants to find inspiration and enjoy conversation with others.

Time in one of the local spas to relax and breathe is included in your registration!
